"One of the most delightful things about a garden is the anticipation it brings."

Chickens

Something we have discussed for years was getting our own chickens.  Year after year we would talk about it, and then something else would come up and it would go on the wish list for another year.
This Spring we decided (well, I did) that it would be the year to buy chicks rather than just ooh and aah over them at the feed store.
So on March 30, 2012 we brought home 4 little chicks.

This is Blossom the Ameracauna

Sunny the Brown Leghorn

Tina Fey (Stamatina) the Black Star

Chirpy the Delaware

Soon the coop building will begin and I'll be sure to share that.

Then on April 14, 2012 we brought these two home:
 Elke and Inge the Barnevelders

  1. Congrats on your chickens, they should be laying by now! I started with mine in early April this year, but cheated a little with three full grown chickens and 5 five week old chicks. The chicks turned out to be roosters save for one , but the hens have layed scores and scores of eggs so far. Let me know how it is progressing and drop by my blog to see my setup.

  2. I am new to your blog and I love it. It is so much like my own! We have 22 hens and I have my sign for eggs out. We just put up a greenhouse and I am ready to get my vegetable garden going. It's called "enthusiasm". Love your pictures. My blog is "Window in the Kitchen" www.Poseykitchenwindow@blogspot.com
